Brigandat Champagne - What a lovely lady!
What a lovely lady!
This is the last day of our 3 week tasting trip and what a place to finish at Pierre & Fils Brigandat Champagne.
We have stocked Champagne from Brigandat now for six years thanks to a recommendation from our good friends and neighbours Eddy and Marie.
Today we arrived at Channes a small village on the border of the Aube region, again harvest is in full swing and there is little time for Bertand to spend with us, not a problem as we have pre-ordered the Champagne so just a quick paperwork exercise, payment and off we go on our way home to the ferry.
How wrong can you be! Paperwork provided by HMRC for us to buy the champagne is incorrect which means we cannot take anything from here for export even though all duty has been paid in advance, I must admit at this stage we are not too happy but after numerous phone calls to Customs in both the UK and France we have managed to get a compromise and the Champagne is loaded.
Madam Brigandat gave us a tour of the winery and then a degustation, what a warm and kind lady she is, her husband Pierre was the founder of the Champagne House but unfortunately he is no longer with us but she is still here helping with production. A couple of glasses shared with Madam accompanied by a delicious ‘Olive and Ham cake’ - watch out for this at our tastings – and off we go.
