Chateau Roquette sur Mer
Firstly today we visited Château Roquette sur mer in the La Clape region of Languedoc, this is a brand new wine for us and we were so privileged to visit this unique site.
The Vineyard is steeped in history from Julius Caesar to the German occupation in both World Wars. Now everyone is welcome at the Chai for Degustation and there are several Gites to hire (with beautiful views as)the Estate looks out onto the Mediterranean.
It is this close proximity to the sea that makes the Vineyard so unusual, there are several different soil types and luckily for this Château the vines planted on the sandy soil were resilient to the Phylloxera epidemic that decimated so many establishments in the 1860’s
Jacques Boscare and his family have owned the property for several generations, he kindly took us on an extensive tour of the land showing us not only the vines but a ruin of a Château from 13th century whose foundations stand on a Roman Villa, he is hoping one day to renovate the property to its former glory but at the moment is waiting for permission from the local authorities.
