We have travelled 40K to Wellington and staying on Nabygelegen Vineyard in the Manor House for three nights.
We found this vineyard a year ago, and stock 5 of their wines in the UK. We are here to relax over the weekend and catch up with James the owner and wine maker.
The temperature in Wellington is always a few degrees higher than Franschhoek and Stellenbosch so we meet James early to have a trip round the vines
It is a relatively small Vineyard of 20 hectares producing 100k bottles each year, there is a staff of 8 people, all housed on the farm.
In the Cape, there is a water shortage, this farm has two rivers flowing from the surrounding mountains and they feed into the dam on site, although the water level is lower than some years keeping the vines watered isn’t a problem.
After our walk, we were treated to a Braie where we spent a very pleasurable evening sampling this year’s vintages.
A big ‘Thank You’ to James and Adele for making us so welcome and we can’t wait to visit again next year
