Lockdown news from Bodegas Sáenz de Santamaría

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

#lockdownnewsfromvineyards

Last year whilst we were on our annual trip in search of new wines we found Bodegas Sáenz deSantamaría on the outskirts of Cenicero in the Spanish area of La Rioja Alta.

Here's their news

"We are pleased to say we are well in the incredible times that we are living, I wish that this ends soon and that we return to normality as soon as possible.

We only work with the Horeca sector, we do not work with large stores or makros, that is why almost all of our clients are closed and with very uncertain future prospects, so it will be a while until we return to "normality".

The vineyard  continues to work as usual, at the moment the only difficulty we have is finding workers for the specific moments in which we need, but all the vineyard work is proceeding normally.

The only thing that will change the harvest with respect to past years is that the yield per hectare will be lower by the new legislation of the DOC Rioja, normally the yield per Ha is 6,500 kg and this year it will be 5,850 kg Although this data is not yet official.

With this reduction we try that there is not much wine on the market since we are not going to recover the months that we have been confined."

It is lovely to hear directly from our vineyards and I thank Manual for his update

We just stock one wine from this Bodegas

Señorio de Rondan - £25.50
