Cottage Pie



Sunset Dinner


Great traditional dish to make vegetarian use good quality meat substitute.


Oven temperature

Preheat oven: 180°c fan 160°c – 350°f – Reg 4


  1. Peel potatoes and boil in salted water until soft, mash with a mixture of milk & butter until smooth

  2. Chop onion, carrots and celery

  3. Heat oil in a pan and cook onion & garlic until translucent then add carrots and celery, cook for approx. 5 minutes

  4. Add mince and cook stirring to break it up, until turned brown

  5. Add a little flour stir and cook for 2 mins add rest of ingredients, check the taste and add more seasoning etc.

  6. Cook for approx. 30 minutes stirring to stop it catching

  7. Place in a pie dish cover with mash and bake for about 30 minutes until the potato is brown and bubbling.

Cooks tips

Ring hte changes and mash sweet potato or a mix of swede and potato - both are delicious

  • 500ml beef stock

  • 125ml red wine

  • Worcestershire Sauce
