Lockdown news from Bodegas As Laxas

Located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the "Rías Baixas" Denomination of Origin is considered as the home of the Albariño variety - one of the most popular Spanish white wines.

Bodegas As Laxas, is family run and they have been producing wines with passion for 4 generations - we are proud to stock their sublime Albariño

Here is their news (obtained from a third party as we don't speak any Spanish!)

"BODEGAS AS LAXAS – Ruben Simon, owner

  1. How are you coping with lockdown?

There are two work areas that require our attention; ´outdoor´ and ´indoor´ work – the vineyards are in full growth at this time of year so we are working really hard, in fact this year more than last because we have planted new vineyards that need extra attention. As for the indoor work in the cellar the work rate has dropped to less than 50% due to a lack of orders.

2. How has lockdown changed your life in the vineyards?

We clearly believe we will get over the situation sooner or later (hopefully sooner) and we remain positive about the future. Luckily our life has not changed to any great extent as we are a small village with no detected cases of Coronavirus or victims, and as we work in the countryside we can lead a fairly normal life. It is much more complicated inside the winery because it´s not busy, no visits are permitted and the virus prevention measures are greater.

3. How you feel the next harvest will be affected by the unprecedented circumstances you have been faced with?

From a quality perspective I don’t believe the current situation should  affect the

wine but wine drinking habits in the future are going to change drastically. Our perception is that home consumption of alcoholic drinks will increase as large numbers of the hotel and restaurant trade closes down permanently."

Many thanks Ruben

Albariño wine is crisp, refreshing and bursting with fruit - chill and eat with mussels
