Lockdown news from La Chataigne

La Chataigne Wines and Guest Cottages is run by Richard and Julie Parkfelt with the support of a great team. It is a working farm, situated 7 km from Franschhoek village, in the heart of the winelands.

We have stocked wines from this vineyard for many years and never miss the opportunity to catch up with the Parkfelt family when we are in South Africa.

There is never a doubt that you have picked up a bottle of La Chataigne wine as there isn't a label in site as each bottle is personally signed at the winery!

Richard sent this update last week. Things will have changed a little for the better now as from 1st June it is possible to sell alcohol again.

"Well what a start of the year !!!

With regards to the Pandemic, well what a mess. We cannot sell wine locally and it took for ever just to get the export orders out. Still there is no end in sight for the ban of liquor and tobacco sales here in SA.

Treating us all as if we are children. Well it has dried up our income to ZERO. But we are getting innovative and hopefully we will find new ways to do sales and carry the business forward.

The vines are looking good, and the weather has been ridiculously fantastic. But now we need it to rain. We do not want another drought on top of all this.

But we will definitely make wine next year, because I think it may well be our major source of income given that accommodation might take a very long time to recover.

Keep well and keep safe.

Regards from all of us down here"

Thanks Richard.

We are completly out of stock of La Chataigne wines until our delivery from South Africa arrives.
