Lockdown news from Arendsig Handcrafted Winery.

Arendsig (Eagle's View) is a privately owned farm with its own vineyards and boutique cellar situated in the (southern part) foot hills of the Robertson Valley. It is in this beautiful valley that Lourens van der Westhuizen and his team hand-select grapes of the finest quality, from which he hand crafts his quality wines with its unique and distinct aroma, flavour and character.

Read on to see how they have managed during Covid.

"We have been very fortunate with the support of our private market here in South Africa. Although people had to wait quite some time to get their wines they purchased in support of us and waited until the ban on alcohol was uplifted. We have all been very proactive helping with deliveries as much as we could as the courier companies were totally swamped and overloaded with orders. Life on the farm has been fairly normal and luckily Lourens could continue to finish work in the winery & now preparing the vineyards through the winter for the next vintage. The new 2019 White Wines are in the bottles as well as the 2020 Sauvignon Blanc. Currently we are preparing the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz for bottling later this month for it to be released a bit later this year.

The challenge of course is that we have to find alternative ways to grow our wine sales because the Ontrade is closed and is a big chunk of our market. Our local agents around South Africa can now sell wines, but they too are going through the same challenges. Therefore we are doing what we can to supply people direct and use the various avenues available to do so. Everyone at Arendsig has been very positive and optimistic and went out of their way to help wherever is needed!

Thank you carte-du-vin for your continued support and I hope that your customers are also supporting you in the same way. It seems that there is a very positive sentiment towards SA Wines in the export markets because people are aware of our struggles here."

Thanks for the update great to hear from this boutique vineyard.

We are completly out of stock of Arendsig at the moment but the good news is the wines we purchased in March are now on their way and should be with us mid July.

We are taking pre-orders now for the following wines

Cabernet Sauvignon - £13.95

Shiraz - £13.95
