Monday today so back to work!
Before our appointment today we stopped off in the town of Franschhoek for a quick shop and a meeting place - my husband and I shop differently!!
1 Coffee shop
We arrange to meet at The Hoek Espresso Bar.
This café is situated just off the main street and is a quirky little place with several tables on the street and more in a courtyard behind the shop.
A fun place to be and I can imagine if you were a local this would be a regular place to have your morning coffee and a chat with friends.
1 Vineyard and 1 Restaurant
This is what South Africa does so well - a vineyard visit that also offers a first-class dining experience.
The vineyard we are to visit is Peter Falke in Stellenbosch. We have stocked wines from here for over 3 years and their quality speaks for itself - we are pleased to say that the selection of their wines we stock has, in the past year, become our third bestselling range. Which is great news for us both!
Also exciting is that all wines are performing well in this year’s awards - topping the table is their Signature Cabernet Sauvignon - Kailani- ( which gained platinum in the Decanter Awards.
We are here to sample the new vintages on offer (the new Pinot Noir especially stands out!) and enjoy a couple of hours tasting delicious wines accompanied by a platter of mixed meats, olives, and cheeses sitting in the most beautiful garden setting.
is a must to visit when in Stellenbosch and now is offering comfortable surroundings all year round. In Spring and Summer, there are beautiful gardens to relax in which are perfect for meeting up with friends or family lunches and they have created a new area for the colder Autumn and Winter days where you can sit with a glass of wine and a warming bowl of soup in front of a roaring fire!
If you are keeping up with our blog you will remember we had lunch at Eikehof winery. We bought a bottle of their Cabernet Sauvignon as we were told that it paired really well with steak.
In South Africa, some restaurants offer the option of BYO (bring your own) wine, which is an amazing chance to sample perhaps a favourite wine you have with a chef’s menu!
One of the places that offer the BYO option is Hussar Grill - it is a restaurant chain that has been trading for over 55 years and prides itself in providing top-quality meat in all its restaurants.
We have eaten in several of their grill rooms and here in Franschhoek, they are situated within the Protea Hotel. The wine we took along paired beautifully with our steaks - it was a great opportunity to drink locally produced wine in a quality steakhouse just 2 kilometres down the road!
