Muratie Wine - vineyard visit

Just 10 miles from where we are staying is Muratie Wine Estate.

We have been stocking their wines now for 4 years and it was a great find!

Today we sit under the trees and have a tasting with Reuben - he guides us through the wines and tells us the history behind this estate which dates back to 1653.

Whilst tasting the new vintages we are joined by Rijk Melck who is the owner and winemaker. This year, the weather has been very challenging with high winds, high temperatures, and no rain. What this means of course is the vines shut down and do their best to protect the fruit from the extreme heat.

After a pleasant couple of hours sheltering in the sun under the famous tree which was planted in the 1700s. we move into the airconditioned dining room where we enjoy an artisan platter with a glass of Ansela Van de Caab.

Again, a perfect partner for fresh meats, olives, cheeses, etc.

There is such a lot of history here - a visit to Muratie is essential if you’re ever in this area. A warm welcome is assured.
